The subject of this article is the chrono-typological, production-related and functional characteristics of the loom weights from the Plaghia peninsula in south-western mainland Greece. The focus here is on the question of where and by whom the loom weights were produced and whether certain distributions of the types of loom weights indicate certain textile production methods. A further point concerns the decoration (or labelling) of loom weights, the significance of which can be partially deduced from the decoration technique. The contextual analysis of the decorated but also unmarked objects also provide further information about their particular symbolic meaning in the respective place of discovery. Ultimately, the aim is to clarify the question of what evidence for the ancient domestic economy can be taken from the loom weights and what conclusions can be drawn about textile production and living conditions in the region of Acarnania.
