09.09.2025 von

MarbleSignatures is a digital platform designed to convey archaeometric data, archaeological evidence, and scientific methodologies related to white marble used in art and architecture across the ancient Mediterranean world. The primary objective of MarbleSignatures is to provide archaeologists, art historians, and museum curators with web-based tools for analyzing and determining the origin of marble—that is, identifying the quarry sites from which the lithic material was extracted in antiquity.

MarbleSignatures

MarbleSignatures was developed during the winter Ssemester 2024/2025 by a team of BA undergraduates – R. Islam, A. Jijavadze, J. Sutphen, M. Tabak, G. Willner Grain Rodrigues (Team 41) – as part of their mandatory traineeship within the Department of Informatics at TU Darmstadt.

The project was initiated and coordinated by N. Toma, who is fully responsible for both the content and algorithm, with assistance from D. Attanasio, who provided the database and statistical expertise.
